Wisconsin Kids Code (SB978)
Introduced by Representative Alex Joers, Representative Jill Billings, Representative Renuka Mayadev, and Senator Jeff Smith, the Wisconsin Kids Code is age-appropriate design code legislation that would improve young people’s digital experiences by requiring tech companies to implement privacy-by-default and safety-by-design protections for kids online. This means not collecting or selling their data, setting high privacy standards by default, and avoiding manipulative design.
Social Media Mental Health Warnings (AB960)
Introduced by Representative Renuka Mayadev, this legislation would require social media platforms to provide mental health warnings and providing a penalty. The mental health warning label must be conspicuous, warn the user of potential negative mental health effects of accessing the social media platform, and provide the user access to certain resources to address these effects.
