The South Carolina Kids Code brings together parents, youth, medical professionals, partners organizations, and other experts to advocate for legislation to provide safety-by-design and privacy-by-default protections for kids and teens online.
Endorsed Legislation
Age-Appropriate Design Code (H-3402 and S-268)
Introduced by Rep. Brandon Guffey and Tommy Pope and Senator Sean Bennett, the South Carolina Kids Code is age-appropriate design code legislation that would improve young people’s digital experiences by requiring tech companies to implement privacy-by-default and safety-by-design protections for kids online. This means not collecting or selling their data, setting high privacy standards by default, and avoiding manipulative design.
Social Media Regulation Act (H-3431)
Co-sponsored by Reps. Newton, Wooten, Pope, Martin, Pedalino and McCravy, the Social Media Regulation Act includes age-appropriate design code legislation that would require online services and products that children and teens are likely to access to protect their safety and privacy in an age-appropriate way.
