The Kansas Kids Code Coalition brings together parents, youth, medical professionals, partners organizations, and other experts to advocate for legislation to provide safety-by-design and privacy-by-default protections for kids and teens online.
Endorsed Legislation
Age-Appropriate Design Code (SB499)
The Kansas Age-Appropriate Design Code would improve young people’s digital experiences by requiring tech companies to implement privacy-by-default and safety-by-design protections for kids online. This means not collecting or selling their data, setting high privacy standards by default, and avoiding manipulative design. Additional chatbot protections establish clear liability standards for injuries caused by the use of chatbots, while imposing strict privacy, data use, and transparency requirements on chatbot providers.
