Data Privacy Legislation
Strong data privacy legislation can protect children and teens from the exploitative data practices of Big Tech and social media companies. For too long, online platforms have harvested young people’s personal information—often without meaningful consent—and used it to fuel surveillance-driven business models that prioritize profit over privacy.
The Kids Code Coalition supports legislation that set clear limits on the collection, use, and sharing of minors’ data, ensuring that young users are not tracked, profiled, or manipulated by design. Many states including Arkansas, California, Connecticut, New York, and Oregon have introduced measures to limit or restrict online platforms from collecting or selling minors’ sensitive data.
